June 12, 2024 @ 8:00 am 11:00 am CDT

Give back to nature!

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 12
MYERS NATURE PRESERVE
Comstock Twp., Kalamazoo Co..
9 am – 12 pm
* This is an opportunity to experience a SWMLC preserve that is not normally open to the public and a great time to take advantage of the special access the volunteer Weekly Warriors receive in exchange for their generosity in performing essential habitat restoration work for SWMLC!

IMPORTANT: MYERS NATURE PRESERVE HAS NO PARKING AREA SO VOLUNTEERS MUST PARK ON THE SHOULDER OF A BUSY ROAD. PLEASE USE EXTREME CAUTION AND VISIT OUR WEBSITE FOR SPECIFIC PARKING INSTRUCTIONS.

REMINDER: It’s tick season! Consider bringing repellent and be sure to do a tick-check when you get home!

ACTIVITIES will include cutting invasive shrubs and vines using hand tools.

BRING
Bring your own work gloves and favorite cutting tools (SWMLC can supply loppers if you need to borrow a pair). Don’t forget a hat, bandana for mopping up sweat, and personal drinking water and snacks. Sunscreen is a good idea for those who are prone to burning.

DRESS
Wear comfortable clothes that can get dirty, stained, or ripped – and dress in layers that you can remove if you get hot. Wear sturdy boots or shoes. Sunglasses or safety glasses are highly recommended.

Are you concerned about the environment but not sure how to help? Got a few hours to spare for a meaningful cause on Monday or Wednesday mornings? Do you enjoy working outdoors? Maybe SWMLC’s weekly volunteer-driven stewardship workdays would be a good fit. No special tools, strengths, or skills needed – just bring yourself and a willing attitude. There aren’t any commitments – come when you can or feel like it, you will always be welcome!
